Timing is everything!! Prevention is always better than cure. Why spend years trying to straighten your fully developed teeth when you can ensure they grow straight naturally? Early Treatment is performed while baby teeth are still present. Early treatment can be in a patient’s best interests if their problem is one that could become more serious over time if left untreated. The goal of early treatment is to intercept the developing problem, eliminate the cause, guide the growth of facial and jaw bones, and provide adequate space for incoming permanent teeth. We recommend that children should have their first orthodontic screening at age 3. This is a simple orthodontic evaluation and is offered to our patients 100% free of charge.

Crooked teeth and bad jaw problems are often found in children between the ages of 5 to 15. If you correct these problems before they have the chance to damage your child’s teeth, they might even skip the need of using braces as teenagers.

It is a common misconception that all crooked teeth are caused by hereditary factors. Modern research suggests otherwise. Crooked teeth and poor jaw development are often caused by factors like:

  • Thumb sucking
  • Breathing through the mouth
  • Tongue thrusting
  • Open mouth
  • Reverse swallowing
  • Allergies
  • Asthma

MYOBRACE is a preventive pre-braces treatment that focuses on addressing the underlying causes of crooked teeth, often without the need for braces, allowing for natural growth and development. Treatment is administered during the child’s formative years. The earliest the better!!  Traditional braces aren’t recommended for young children (before age 7) because their developing teeth are fragile and can’t handle the treatment. Myobrace is specifically designed to ensure your child’s teeth and jaw develop properly.

How Does Myobrace Work?

Myobrace is a pre-orthodontic treatment similar to traditional braces but designed to be a preventative tool. If your child undergoes this treatment, there might not be a need for traditional orthodontic treatments like braces or teeth extractions down the line.

This treatment corrects the underlying problems that causes misalignment and jaw issues. It encourages natural growth and development while eliminating poor habits.

For this treatment, our dentist will provide a customized set of intra-oral devices. Your child will need to wear this device one/ two hours during the day and throughout the night. These devices come in a series of sets that follow the movement of the teeth. The treatment is ideally suited for children between 3 years to 15 years of age. Myobrace won’t be as effective if the teeth are fully developed and matured.

What Does Myobrace Do?

Myobrace offers a number of benefits that will have a positive impact on your child’s overall health and lifestyle, such as:

The treatment is carried out in four stages that involve habit correction, followed by arch development, dental alignment (sometimes using braces depending on child’s age), before ending with retention. Phase 1 Treatment 

Taking into consideration the patient’s age and level of cooperation we may consider an Phase1 treatment “Interceptive Treatment” means treatment that is performed while some baby teeth are still present with the help of Orthodontic Appliances and Braces. Early screenings make it possible to get early treatment, with some children beginning progressive orthodontic treatments as early as age 6. With a simple but very important orthodontic evaluation that is used to identify jaw irregularities or developmental complications that could indicate the need for orthodontic treatment in the future.

The kinds of problems we may recommend treating while a child still has some baby teeth include:

  • Underbites – when the lower front teeth are ahead of the upper front teeth
  • Crossbites – when the jaw shifts to one side
  • Very crowded teeth
  • Excessively spaced teeth
  • Extra or missing teeth
  • Teeth that meet abnormally, or don’t meet at all
  • Habits-Thumb, finger-, or pacifier- sucking that is affecting the teeth or jaw growth

Your child’s first orthodontic screening will include a visual examination as well as a x-rays. We may also ask you questions about your child’s habits, such as thumb or finger-sucking.
